When I discovered I would be traveling around the world to Europe, I was thrilled, yet also apprehensive. The idea of an 11-hour flight didn't sit well with me. Nevertheless, I began researching the weather, attractions, sights to see, and shops to visit.
Travel enthusiasts planning their first European trips often wonder about Costco Travel: Is it possible to book travel without a Costco Travel account? The answer is yes. You can book a trip without a Costco Travel Account by choosing "Continue without an account" on the main login page.
Is it necessary to provide your membership number? Yes, because it's the only way to extend special offers to Costco Members. A common question many of you might have is why Costco sells these packages. The reason is straightforward: they want you to be aware that they offer Buyer's choices packages.
Airfare is not part of the packages and must be added separately. Once you choose a European Package, it automatically includes accommodations and airport pickup. For instance, if I want to return to Paris, after visiting www.costcotravel.com, I select the destination: Europe, and the country I want to visit: Paris, along with a second country. For the second country, you might choose Rome. You will then be directed to a page displaying the packages offered by Costco travel. For example, you can pick the package our family selected in 2023, which includes travel to four countries: Paris, Venice, Florence, and Rome. If you choose this option, you click on it and then select your preferred airline. You must choose regular class, not business or first class. After selecting the airline, you will be taken to another page where you can choose your departure time. A good example is when we selected Air France to fly to Paris, departing at 3:25 PM from Los Angeles and arriving at 11:05 AM Paris time on November 22nd.
It's important to mention that Costco Travel doesn't provide options for all airlines. On our trip to Europe, the airlines available to us were British Airways, Air France, American Airlines, and Delta. For instance, AAA Travel offers Iberia for flights to Madrid, unlike American Airlines. Additionally, when booking, ensure you select the direct flight option, as landing in another state with a 4-hour layover will only delay your arrival at your destination in the morning.
How can one verify their seat assignments on the plane? After entering all the passenger details, you will be directed to the seat selection page. If you are a large family and wish to sit together, I recommend upgrading for just $20.00 (U.S.). Keep in mind that all seats and flights are subject to change at any time. This happened to me when I traveled to Paris. I remember receiving a notification from Delta stating they had switched us from that airline to Air France. I called, and they confirmed they moved us to Air France so we could return to the states earlier. It's also important to note that not all airlines offer pre-reserved seating. If the seating isn't available on the map, you will likely be seated next to a stranger rather than your family on an 11-hour flight.
For international travel, passports are necessary. Recently, an ETIAS visa has become a requirement for trips to Paris, Scotland, Amsterdam, and other countries. This visa should be obtained at least 1 or 2 weeks before traveling. Additionally, passports need to be valid for at least 6 months after your travel date.
Keep in mind that not everyone will be friendly towards you. I know this because Spaniards can be rude. You might assume that since I speak Spanish, they would be kind, but that's not the case. Remember, speaking even a little of the local language can be very beneficial, as it shows you respect their language.
