Europe- Venice 2/4

Writer: kimmy cuthbertkimmy cuthbert

When people mention Venice, what's the first thing that pops into your mind? Water. Gondolas. Ah, Venice! Honestly, I was apprehensive about visiting Venice, especially with all the water surrounding it. As we departed Paris for Venice, I started contemplating my upcoming adventure. Would I love it? What if I didn't like it? Upon our arrival, it was cold but sunny 🌞, which felt pleasant. After clearing customs and immigration, our Costco Travel transportation picked us up. They transported us from the airport to a dock where we boarded a water taxi to take us to our hotel. As we entered the water taxi, I admired all the beauty that is Venice. Upon reaching our hotel, we were welcomed by the hotel manager, Claudio. We selected the NH Collection hotel from Costco, the first of three NH Collections. The hotel itself is splendid and magnificent. We slept through the entire night, and the next morning we woke up at 6 am, got ready, and headed down to the buffet. That same day, we took a gondola ride. The young men rowing the gondola shared some history about Venice and sang Santa Lucia. A few hours later, we went to eat and enjoyed spaghetti with meatballs. The main difference between Italy and the USA is that Europeans, mainly in Italy, do not eat bread with spaghetti and meatballs. Afterwards, we walked back to the hotel but stopped for Gelato first. Keep in mind it has twice the sugar of American ice cream. That same night we packed, and the following day we set off for our next destination... Florence, this time by rail.

Pros: The gondola ride is incredibly beautiful, far surpassing the one available in Las Vegas.

Cons: The NH Collection. This is one of the three places where we had a negative experience.

Hotel Rating: 7/10
